DePuy Hip Replacements

We are accepting all cases involving the DePuy metal on metal hip implants. The voluntary recall in question involves two specific hip implants manufactured by DePuy Orthopedics, a unit of Johnson & Johnson:

• The ASR XL Acetabular System (a hip socket used in traditional hip replacement - available worldwide)
  
• ASR Hip Resurfacing System (a partial hip replacement that involves a placement of a metal cap on the ball of the femur - approved for use only outside the United States). 

Signature injuries include but are not limited to:

• Hardware failure
• Metallosis to necrosis
• Elevated levels of cobalt and chromium in the blood

We are also accepting cases involving all other metal on metal hip implants as we continue to investigate possible failures related to these devices.  (Intel is that there will be three papers published next month concerning metal on metal hips at the Orthopedic Association Convention in CA).
